Testimonials

I have known Sarah since 2015 when I was her flute teacher at the University of Toronto. Sarah is an outstanding flute player and is a lovely person. She has been teaching for over 12 years and brings to her teaching the same dedication and profound musical insights that she has as a flute player. Sarah’s students are in the best possible hands and are fortunate be able to study with her.

Teaching Method

I have over ten years of experience teaching the flute and piano to students of all ages, both in person and online. My specialties are classical music, ranging from the Baroque era to contemporary repertoire.

I am well-versed in Canada’s Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) music training system. To develop well-rounded musicians with strong skills and music literacy, my integrated curriculum includes:

  • repertoire spanning all musical eras

  • études

  • technique

  • aural training

  • sight reading

  • theory & harmony

  • music history

Using a fun and engaging approach I aim to awaken and cultivate the musicality and technical foundation in beginner students. With intermediate and advanced students I continue to develop their technical proficiency while fostering an awareness and appreciation for the subtle nuances of the instrument and the repertoire, including concepts such as phrase structure, intonation and tone colour, giving them the tools to become creative and informed artists.

Most importantly, I’m committed to helping students achieve their personal goals. My work is to inspire and encourage my students as they prepare for exams, auditions or performances, or master new personal milestones just for fun. I establish a supportive relationship with my students in which I promote and reinforce their self-confidence and natural creativity, while inspiring them to reach the highest levels of excellence and achievement.

I also work as a flute clinician. I have coached the flutists of the Durham Youth Orchestra (Whitby, Ontario) as well as the flutists of the Québec Youth Wind Ensemble (Montréal, Québec). During the summer of 2018 I was the director and teacher of flute at the Salvation Army Summer Music Camp (North York Temple, Toronto, Ontario).

In-Person or Online?
Your Choice!

I am thrilled to bring my flute and piano lessons to new and continuing students – wherever you might be!

Online music lessons are a convenient and accessible way to learn from teachers around the world. Students can continue their music lessons remotely when they can’t join their teacher in person. This also eliminates the time and cost of commuting, making it attractive for people with hectic or unusual schedules. Students living in remote areas can now connect with skilled teachers of their instruments no matter how far away.
